President Obama’s foreign policy is looking more like what we had come to expect from President Bush. In recent weeks we have seen the President push for an aggressive escalation in Afghanistan with troop surges and an increase use of drone planes. The result has been an increase of civilian deaths and a plea from their US backed President asking for the US to take a “ higher moral standard “ to address terrorism. Obama as Bush in Iraq is justifying the death of innocent civilians as necessary to route out terrorism. Unfortunately it appears that Obama like Bush is missing a key point, that is, that by bombing a country in search of the “elusive terrorists” creates more anti American sentiment.
President Obama ran and people were hopeful that a thoughtful, intelligent leader would help rebuild our standing in the hearts and minds of the rest of the world. With our allies refusing to follow us into an escalation into Afghanistan, what do our not so friendly allies and non -supporters think? Many people also voted for him believing he would get us out of Iraq and bring back some dignity to our failed policies. However, reversing his position on releasing photos of what Americans did to prisoners and reconvening the tribunals, dragging his feet on closing Gitmo, raises questions of whether his foreign policies are any different than what would have happened with a third term Bush presidency by John McCain.
Clearly, he is missing a cornerstone of what his economic recovery could be about, pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan and using that money (billions annually) at home or aboard for the health education and welfare of Americans and/or people of the world.
Let us hope that he realizes before its too late that his war in Afghanistan is a “fool’s folly”
PEACE

Have more faith in the man... He is not trying to escalate war in Afghanistan. He is trying to prevent radicals from having credibility. Has anyone been listening to the kinds of work the "army" is doing? They are leaning a bit more towards being a peace corps than an army ~ helping communities build something positive, more than trying to destroy them... Perhaps I am overly optimistic, but I don't think Obama has lost sight of his goals at all . . .
