If you are looking for an affordable car which helps you make a green statement, Volvo C30 is not it. For affordable green cars - we have talked about Yaris, Smart Car ForTwo and Honda Fit, with Prius as a high end consideration. You will find the links in the left column. Volvo C30 is for the young and upwardly mobile with no kids on the horizon, who want to use their car to make a statement about themselves when stop at an intersection. Its stylish and safe. With its 5 cylinder 2.5 liter engine, it packs 227 hp with 5,000 rpm. Its mileage, at 19 city / 28 hwy, is nothing to write home about. But then you are not buying this for carbon credits. If you are seriously considering Smart Car ForTwo but would like more oomph and want to pay $10,000 more for it, take a look at the C30. If you are a fan of Mini Cooper, Volvo C30 will give you much better value for your money. Before I forget, C30 may also appeal to the gray haired types who are looking for something sporty but more affordable than BMW. They can have the sporty style, safety and the power to go from zero to 60 in 6 secs for about $22,000 without dipping too deeply into their retirement nest egg. Volvo has set up a fun web site for C30. To those who think that is tacky, here is the original with all the engineering thrown in.
